medium: vine and compressed charcoal on newsprint. It measures 16.5" wide x 17" tall. This is an attempt at a reproduction of Kathe Kollwitz's "Self-portrait," 1934, lithograph (you can see a picture of the original by going to the link inside the brackets [ http://gregcookland.com/journal/uploaded_images/picKollwitzSelfportraitBlog-761183.jpg ]). I didn't get the dimensions right (I was blowing it up considerably from the source I was given (without time to grid) and there are plenty of other things that are a bit "off." Initially I was really frustrated and disappointed with the outcome, but once I stopped thinking about it needing to look exactly like Kollwitz's "self portrait," the drawing grew on me. I like imagining what the woman is looking at, what's going through her mind and how she is feeling. The possibilities are endless...
