divided we float

media: black, white and sanguine conté crayons. Measures 22.5" wide x 16.5" tall. PROCESS: This piece was drawn from 5 different poses of the same model--we were given 5-10 minutes in each pose and the model went through the sequence of each pose 3 times (I think...) so we had a chance to plan the first time around and find the view of each pose we wanted to draw. The prompt was to create a composition without creating any visual context or depth for the subject(s) of the composition. We were encouraged to create an abstracted composition using a part of each pose. I really struggle with creating abstract art and ended up just looking for what I felt were interesting lines, shapes and/or shadows in each pose and tried to create a visually interesting relationship between each part. After rendering each part I felt the piece needing something more to tie the composition together, and the only abstract aspect of the composition was placement of the body parts--so I took a sanguine conté crayon and found/accented/accentuated my favorite lines/shapes in the piece. The end result worked out better than I thought it would.
